Monday Mom Tip: Chest Congestion

Hey y’all!

I just had to share this one with allergy season approaching.  We have found an excellent way to beat the drama of this season.  Want to know what it is?  Well, it’s really 2 things:

Our chest congestion treatment and our anit-histamine trick.

First, I really can’t take credit for the chest congestion treatment.  It was given to me by one of our former church mothers.  Her remedy for that nasty chest cough is:

1.  Put about 2-3 drops of white vinegar into 1 cup of water.  The temperature doesn’t matter.

2.  Take 1-3 sips of the mixture.

3.  Cough.

The mucus will immediately begin to come up and out.  Be ready!!  This ALWAYS works for us.  We have also given it to several non-believers and they were immediately converted to this method.

There’s also a 4th step that we sometimes use.  It’s a cracker!  She says to eat a cracker after you sip the mixture.  I don’t know what it does, but we do it sometimes too (my husband has a cracker fetish, so we are often out or he’s giving us the stank eye about eating them all) lol.

Ok, onto tip #2!  Usually we have to use the mixture tip because someone’s cough caught us unprepared.  Or because the little people don’t blow their noses consistently and end up with a chest cough.  But if we get a chance to nip it in the bud, we give them an anti-histamine.  This halts the itchy eyes, runny nose, scratchy throat, sinus drainage and sneezing.  So none of the excess mucus even has a chance to arise.

Finally, I am going to get a humidifier.  As if Greensboro isn’t humid enough, I am going to add air into our domain.  I hear HVAC is a major culprit of dry sinuses which cause all kinds of other issues.  But thank God today is warm enough to air out the house.  So I’ll throw open some windows and get prepped to do some dusting!  Yay…(yes, that was steeped in sarcasm)

Oh!  I recently met with a doTerra rep about essential oils and after I’d sampled some I decided that I am going to get a kit for the household.  If you’ve tried it, have heard about it or have comments, please share!  I’m looking to get it in the next week.  I looked at all they can do and now I’m intrigued.

Well, have a great week!  I hope this tip helped.  And until next time, try not to kill your kids!
